John (Jack) Muir Laws<\/a> is a scientist, educator, and author who helps people forge a deeper and more personal connection with nature through keeping illustrated nature journals and understanding science. Trained as a wildlife biologist and an associate of the California Academy of Sciences, he observes the world with rigorous attention and teaches skills in observation, curiosity, and creative thinking. He is the founder of the Nature Journal Club on Facebook<\/a>, an online community of 44,000+ nature journalers, and the Wild Wonder Nature Journaling Conference<\/a>, an annual event that gathers people who are passionate about nature, art, science, curiosity, and wonder. In partnership with the Children\u2019s Creativity Museum in San Francisco, he is the creator of the Nature Journal Connection<\/a>, a free educational video series to help people of all ages build nature journaling skills. He has also written and illustrated several books including How to Teach Nature Journaling<\/a><\/em> (co-authored with Emilie Lygren, 2020), The Laws Guide to Nature Drawing and Journaling<\/a><\/em> (2016), The Laws Guide to Drawing Birds<\/a><\/em> (2012), and more. Among his many accolades, he received the 2020 Bay Nature Local Hero award for his work in environmental education. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Thanks to the support of SFBBO donors, we have been able to host drawing workshops for free<\/em> with John Muir Laws while highlighting some of SFBBO’s bird conservation work.
